Top of Europe - Jungfraujoch!

Just the other day I had the feeling to get away for a little bit, breathe fresh air and forget everything. So what better place to go than the mountains? Even more if you have them just outside your front door! It was a glorious day, sunshine and bright blue sky and it had snowed the day before. I decided to visit the Jungfraujoch, which is located 3454 metres (not sure how much that is in ft) above sea level in the Bernese Alps. Yet being born and raised in Switzerland, I had never been before. And let me tell you, it is absolutely breathtaking!

The only way to get to the top, is by taking the Junfrau railway, which you can get on in Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen. As for me, I drove to Lauterbrunnen and took the train from there. All in all it takes about one and a half hours (at least from Lauterbrunnen) until you reach the top. Mind that, the way up is very steep and therefor the train is very slow, but as all trains in Switzerland, very comfortable. At the "Kleine Scheidegg" you have to change to another train. The trainride will already leave you kinda speachless, you'll get a panoramic view of the Bernese Alps.

When you have reached the top, there are several different attractions, such as the Sphinx, which is an outdoor panorama platform, then you have an Ice Palace and many more. You can even hike a short way (45 mins) up to the Mönchjochshütte where you can enjoy a delicious lunch and mesmerising views. Don't forget, the air up there is quite thin and you have to walk slowly to avoid feeling dizzy.

I spent a long time up there, enjoying and taking in by the fresh crisp air and the beautiful scenery. It was definitely a glorious day and if you're ever in Switzerland, the Jungfraujoch is a MUST!
